2020 Rally

Deloraine, TAS
October 2 - 5, 2020
** Special Newsletter (July 2020) - COVID-19 - click here **
Members & Guests,
The executive committee of the Register in conjunction with the 2020 Rally organisers, Jim & Robyn Irvine, are constantly monitoring the latest news and updates relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At this time, we are still hoping for the Rally to proceed in early October as planned, and are working towards this goal.
As you will be aware, currently most states have closed their borders to tourist travel in order to try to contain, and eliminate this virus from our country.
We are hoping all of the efforts being made will prove successful.
Please continue to submit your Rally Entry Forms (as published in our Newsletter) to Jim & Robyn Irvine so that they may have a constant update on the expected number of members attending our annual get-together.
At this time, you may wish to ‘hold off’ on paying the Rally Entry Fee until a final determination is made as to whether or not this year’s Rally will proceed.
Should the 2020 Rally to Tasmania be deferred, Sue and Ian Thornley, organisers of the 2021 Rally, have agreed that the 2020 Rally to Tasmania be rescheduled to October 2021. They would then reschedule the S.A. Rally to September/October 2022.
We are intending to make this final decision in late July (4 months from now and 2 months before the planned date of the Rally), all participants entered will be notified by email, all members will be notified via this website and the Newsletter.
As well as forwarding your Rally Entry Form to Jim & Robyn:
* please continue to make your accommodation bookings at the venues indicated in our Newsletter,
* please investigate, and if possible, book your travel arrangements to and from Tasmania, whether it be by plane or the Spirit of Tasmania.
Jim & Robyn have undertaken extensive research and the following is the current information available from TT Lines and Airlines on their deferment/cancellation/refund policies.
They suggest that members maintain their existing bookings with TT Lines until we advise on any changes to the Rally dates, as once cancelled members may not be able to secure a booking for the original dates should the Rally proceed this year.

Original Rally Notes - November 2019
The Oakland Car Register Australia (OCRA) Rally for 2020 will based in Deloraine located in the north central area of Tasmania. The Rally will commence on the morning of Friday the 2nd of October. The final activity for the Rally will be afternoon tea on Monday the 5th October 2020.
For members travelling from the mainland, the group will be sailing from Melbourne on the Spirit of Tasmania on Thursday evening the 1st October arriving in Devonport on the morning of Friday the 2nd. At the conclusion of the Rally, participants may choose to sail from Devonport to return to Melbourne on the evening of Monday the 5th October.
Members might wish to take the opportunity to extend their stay by sailing to Tasmania earlier, and/or return to the mainland at a later date. Having made enquiries with TT Line there is no advantage in making a group booking for the Rally, therefore members are to book their own passage and on board accommodation to suit their individual needs.
We understand that some participants will fly to Tasmania and hire vehicles to participate in the rally. The airports closest to Deloraine which have flights from the mainland are Launceston, Devonport and Wynyard. Hire cars are available at each of these airports.
Note: the Rally is being held during school holidays, so please book your travel early. Bookings with TT Line are now open for October 2020 and can be made via their website.
We’re investigating a number of suitable options in the Port Melbourne area to assemble in the late afternoon prior to boarding. The location should provide adequate parking, toilet facilities, refreshments and fuel. We can then proceed as a group to the boarding location.
On disembarking at Devonport, we will group together and travel the short distance to our breakfast venue where we will meet up with our Tasmanian members, and members who have travelled across earlier. Rally packs will also be distributed on arrival.
The accommodation for the Rally will be a mixture of motel, hotel, cabins and B&Bs in Deloraine. The Mountain View Country Inn, Deloraine Hotel, and Empire Hotel prices below include a discount for Oakland Register members. Register members are asked to make their own accommodation arrangements. Only limited off street parking is available at the hotels.
Regular updates will be provided here and in the Newsletter.
For information about the 2020 Rally, email Jim and Robyn at jim.irvine1@bigpond.com.
We’re looking forward to catching up with our Oakland friends and hope you’re able to join us in Deloraine in October 2020.
Regards,
Jim and Robyn
